The main sites to visit on this 4 Days from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Tour

High Atlas Mountains & Tizi n’Tichka Pass

The journey begins with a spectacular drive through the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m). This mountain road offers breathtaking panoramic views, traditional Berber villages clinging to hillsides, and terraced valleys that reveal daily rural life in Morocco. It is considered one of the most scenic routes in North Africa.

Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

Ait Ben Haddou is one of Morocco’s most iconic and best-preserved ksars (fortified villages). Built from earth and clay, this historic site once served as an important stop along the ancient caravan route between the Sahara Desert and Marrakech.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ait Ben Haddou is also famous for appearing in numerous international films and TV series, including Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia, and Babel. Walking through its narrow alleys and climbing to the hilltop granary offers stunning views of the surrounding desert landscape.

Skoura Oasis & Kasbahs

Located between Ouarzazate and the Dades Valley, Skoura Oasis is a vast palm grove dotted with ancient kasbahs, some dating back several centuries. This fertile oasis contrasts beautifully with the surrounding arid landscapes and reflects Morocco’s traditional oasis life. Many kasbahs here were once strongholds of powerful families controlling caravan routes.

Valley of Roses (Kalaat M’gouna)

The Valley of Roses is famous for its fragrant Damascus roses, harvested each spring and used to produce rose water, perfumes, soaps, and cosmetic products. The region hosts an annual Rose Festival, celebrating local traditions and craftsmanship. A stop here allows visitors to discover authentic, locally made rose products.

Dades Gorges

The Dades Gorges are known for their dramatic rock formations, winding roads, and deep canyon carved by the Dades River. Surrounded by red and ochre cliffs, the area offers impressive natural scenery and peaceful landscapes, making it a perfect place to relax after a day of travel.

Todgha Gorges

Located near Tinghir, the Todgha Gorges are among Morocco’s most spectacular natural wonders. Towering limestone cliffs rise up to 300 meters, forming a narrow canyon with a crystal-clear river flowing through it. This site is popular for walking, photography, and rock climbing.

Ziz Valley

The Ziz Valley stretches across southeastern Morocco and is famous for its vast palm groves and ancient villages. It provides a vital water source for the region and offers stunning viewpoints overlooking thousands of date palms, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding desert terrain.

Merzouga & Erg Chebbi Dunes

Merzouga is the gateway to the Sahara Desert and home to the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes, some reaching heights of over 150 meters. Here, travelers experience a traditional camel trek across golden sands, watch unforgettable sunsets and sunrises, and spend the night in a desert camp under a star-filled sky, one of the most memorable experiences in Morocco.

Ouarzazate

Often called the “Gateway to the Desert”, Ouarzazate is famous for its kasbahs, film studios, and desert landscapes. The city has served as a filming location for many international movies and is home to the historic Kasbah Taourirt, a former residence of the powerful Glaoui family.

Telouet Kasbah

Nestled in the High Atlas Mountains, Telouet Kasbah was once the stronghold of the Glaoui family, rulers of southern Morocco. Although partially in ruins, the kasbah still displays beautifully decorated rooms and offers insight into Morocco’s political and architectural history.
